Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens Review
There are two lenses that I constantly use on my Canon EOS R8 Full Frame Camera: the RF50mm f1.8 and the RF24-105 f4 L. In this blog, I’ll give my honest review of this “nifty fifty” lens.
Why Would You Buy/Use This Lens?
The first question you’ve got to ask yourself when buying new equipment is whether it’s worth for you to buy a new lens. Do you have sufficient equipment or not?
You need to make sure that it will add value to your photography kit and that you want to use it.
Personally, I use it all the time because it’s the perfect focal length for street photography, I love getting really tight photos out of it, and with the aperture of 1.8 it’s also ideal in low-light situations.
I wouldn’t use it when shooting landscapes or anything requiring a very wide view, although there are a couple of scenarios where you could use a 50mm lens.
The Build Quality of the Lens
I really like the overall quality of the lens. Canon did a great job by making it very light as well. If you move from a heavy 24-70 or 70-200 lens to this prime lens, it almost feels like you don’t have a lens on your camera. It’s that light.
The Image Quality
A lot of my photos on this website, and on my Instagram are taken with this 50mm lens. I have used it on an APS-C camera as well, obviously cropping the range to x1.6. On both, very good-quality images.
